Ojika dojo is a community based martial arts club in Newcastle upon
Tyne with members drawn from around North East England, including Tyneside,
Sunderland, Gateshead, Northumberland and County Durham. We train in the
Japanese sword arts Kendo, Iaido, Jodo and Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu Kenjutsu and
supplement our weekly sessions with regional and national seminars, gradings
and competitions. Each art is taught separately, with most members doing
only one or two.
Ojika is registered with the British Kendo Association, the
governing body for Kendo, Iaido and Jodo in the UK. As such, full
members are entitled to attend seminars, take gradings, compete in
competitions and are insured against personal injury. BKA grades are
registered with the European Kendo Federation and Zen Nippon Kendo
Renmei (ZNKR), and are internationally recognised by any affiliated
nation and dojo. Members who train together in Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu
kenjutsu practice through affiliation to the UK HNIR Dosokai.
The atmosphere at the dojo is friendly while remaining serious about
the training. Our primary focus is as a teaching dojo with emphasis
on good technique and strong spirit, and kata is seen as the thread
that establishes the basics of all of the arts we practice.
We welcome enquiries from anyone looking to join us. Please look
through the website for information about the dojo and the martial
arts we practice and email if you are interested in joining in or
even just watching.
